AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, prepares middle school students for college readiness and success. The AVID program, available at all of Tacoma’s middle schools, targets students in the academic “middle” (low A to high C grades) who want to go to college and are willing to work hard.
AVID at First Creek Middle School places these students on the college track by requiring them to enroll in our toughest courses, such as Honors and Advanced Placement®. Our AVID students learn organizational and study skills, develop critical thinking, learn to ask probing questions, receive academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities to make their college dreams reality.
